Andrea's Waiting on Wednesday

I am really looking forward to reading Deadly Little Lies by Laurie Faria Stolarz. I loved her Blue is for Nightmare series and am really looking forward to diving into this one! The book will be released November 10th.

Here is a brief summary:
Last fall, sixteen-year-old Camelia fell for Ben, the mysterious new boy at school who turned out to have a very mysterious gift--pyschometry, the ability to sense the future through touch. But just as Camelia and Ben's romance began to heat up, he abruptly left town. Brokenhearted, Camelia has spent the last few months studying everything she can about psychometry, and experiencing her own strange brushes with premonition. Camelia wonders if Ben's abilities have somehow rubbed off on her. Can the power of psychometry be transferred?

Even once Ben returns to school, Camelia can't get close enough to share her secret with him. Despite the romantic tension between them, Ben remains aloof, avoiding contact. Then when an unexpected kiss leads to a frightening argument, Camelia makes the painful decision to let Ben go and move on. Adam, the hot new guy at work, seems good for her in ways Ben wasn't. Adam is easygoing, and seems to really care about her.
But when Camelia and Adam start dating, a surprising love triangle results. A chilling sequence of events upturns secrets from Ben's past--and Adam's. Someone is lying, and it's up to Camelia to figure out who-before it's too late.

Brief Summary from the Simon & Schuster Website:

Sin is coming... Prepare to Swoon.

Torn from her native New York City and dumped in the land of cookie-cutter preps, Candice is resigned to accept her posh, dull fate. Nothing ever happens in Swoon, Connecticut...until Dice's perfect, privileged cousin Penelope nearly dies in a fall from an old tree, and her spirit intertwines with that of a ghost. His name? Sinclair Youngblood Powers. His mission? Revenge. And while Pen is oblivious to the possession, Dice is all too aware of Sin. She's intensely drawn to him—but not at all crazy about the havoc he's wreaking. Determined to exorcise the demon, Dice accidentally sets Sin loose, gives him flesh, makes him formidable. Now she must destroy an even more potent—and irresistible—adversary, before the whole town succumbs to Sin's will. Only trouble is, she's in love with him. What do you do when the boy of your dreams is too bad to be true?

My Thoughts on Swoon:

What would you do if the man of your dreams just happened to be a vengeful spirit intent on exacting centuries old revenge on your town and family? Would you still be able to love him? Would it really matter that he had a devilish streak of wickedness?

Dice has to face all those questions and more during her time in Swoon, CT. The story begins innocently enough as two cousins, Dice and Pen, are goofing off in the village green. Pen decides to add a little adventure and climbs an old ash tree, but she gets more than she bargains for during this little bit of exercise. Falling from the limb she was perched on, Pen hits the ground and is never quite the same as a result. No, it's not a fatal injury – it's worse. She has become possessed with the spirit of Sinclair Youngblood Powers, a spirit who was killed in the height of his youth who has the taste of blood on his lips.

Nina Malkin weaves a wonderful tale – it is not only a paranormal romance, but also a mystery as well. Dice and Sin work together to piece together a murder mystery that has been unsolved since the late 1700's. Can solving the crime end Sin's revenge bender? Could this knowledge release Sin and finally let him go in peace? Furthermore, is Dice strong enough to let him go?

This story is one that is full of intrigue, plot twists, and romance. It is a bit darker than some other YA novels on the market these days; I would highly recommend that parents of younger teens read the book themselves first before making the decision on if their child should read it. Serious issues come up in the book quite frequently which might be a bit too much for a younger reader.

I do have one negative comment that I feel I need to make. Don't get me wrong, I adored this book, but some aspects of it had me cringing. For example, the nickname thing got to be a bit annoying after awhile. Nobody in Swoon goes by their actual name – Candice becomes Dice, Penelope becomes Pen, and Sinclair becomes Sin. On the surface it doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but after meeting the entire cast of high school characters (each with a nickname in tow) it was somewhat tiresome trying to keep them all straight. I also have to admit that some of the words Dice uses drove me insane as well. For example, she calls her mom “Momster”. Please don't let this little quirks keep you from finishing the novel – it is well worth it.

I promise Sin will live up to his name! He is one of the most captivating literary males I have had the pleasure of spending time with lately. You will be trying to decide if you love him or hate him throughout the entire book. I, for one, choose love.

I have been looking forward to this book, since Scott talked about at the signing he did in Houston, TX back in March. He and Cassandra went on a tour together when Cassandra was doing her City of Glass tour/book signing. I have to say, the two of them together are hilarious. It was so great meeting them. During the signing he showed us pictures and talked about this book and I was so intrigued. I've now read the first few pages and I'm totally hooked!! A review will follow my completion of this amazing book.

Waiting on Wednesday-Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare

I don't know about you guys, but I can not wait until Infernal Devices comes out!! If you were luckily enough to receive the first chapter of The Clockwork Princess at Cassandra's CoG signing, you'll know what I'm talking about.

A thousand years ago, the Angel Raziel mixed his blood with the blood of men and created the race of the Nephilim. Human-angel hybrids, they walk among us, unseen but ever-present, our invisible protectors.

They call themselves Shadowhunters.

The Shadowhunters obey the laws set down in the Gray Book, given to them by the angel: their mandate is to protect our world from the interdimensional parasites they call demons, who travel from world to world, razing and destroying everything in their path. Theirs is also the task of keeping the peace among the warring Downworlders: the human-demon crossbreeds we know as warlocks, vampires, werewolves, and faeries. Though the Shadowhunters hail from their own secret homeland, the country of Idris, they keep outposts in each of the major cities of the world: New York, Tokyo, Shanghai, Paris, St. Petersburg — and London.

The year is 1878. A killer stalks the dark streets of London, flaying his victims alive and removing their skin, leaving behind the stench of demonic witchcraft wherever he strikes. Seeking his identity, the Shadowhunters of the London Insitute find one clue: a membership badge for a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club. Some of London’s richest and most successful men are members. But which of them is the killer, and what is his ultimate goal?

Meanwhile, sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray’s search for her missing brother — once a member of the Pandemonium Club — leads her into Victorian-era London's dangerous supernatural underworld, where vampires stalk the gaslit streets of London, werewolves slink in the shadowy lanes of Whitechapel, and warlocks hold masquerade balls for demons and Downworlders in opium-smoke-filled ballrooms. When Tessa discovers that she herself is a Downworlder, she must learn to trust her natural enemies, the demon-killing Shadowhunters, if she ever wants to learn to control her powers and find her brother. Torn between beautiful Will, a Shadowhunter hiding his true nature, and the devoted Jem, whose own deadly secret is slowly destroying him, Tessa must draw on all her strength to save her brother and keep herself alive in this deadly new world.
