Unique Features has acquired screen rights to "Shiver," a bestselling supernatural romance novel by Maggie Stiefvater that is the first of a three-book series.
Pic will be produced by Unique Features partners Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne.

Book covers a bittersweet paranormal romance between a teen who becomes a wolf each winter and his girlfriend, who helps him find the secret to staying human. The first installment was published by Scholastic Press in August and has been on the bestseller lists for six weeks. The sequel novel, "Linger," will be published next August. Unique acquired all three books in the series.

Shaye and Lynne, who at New Line covered such fantasy and supernatural subject matter as "The Lord of the Rings" and "Blade," sparked to the author's voice, and said they couldn't ignore the grip that otherworldly stories have on young viewers.

Melissa Marr's Beautiful Creatures Give Away

I love how supportive our favorite YA authors are of each other.
While visiting Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's Beautiful Creatures site today
http://www.beautifulcreaturesthebook.com/
they posted about Melissa Marr's BC giveaway.

Melissa will be giving away 6 copies of BC.

I LOVED what Melissa says about BC-
It's a big thick book (600+ pages), but despite that I read it in less than 2 days. My grad thesis was on Faulkner, & I'm a fan of Southern Lit, so I am awfully critical in this area. This is the real deal. It’s beautifully crafted, atmospheric, and original. The length is justified by the story and the atmosphere, and the characters are very real. I devoured it.

Book Review & WIN a copy of Holly Black's The Good Neighbors Series

I received these goodies from Scholastic to review. These are the first graphic novels I've read. I have to say that despite that I'm not a graphic novel reader, they were good. Holly's story line stays true to her form of the traditional faeries. Ted Naifeh's art work really set the mood for the books. This is a new series for Holly and I believe it's going to be a three book series.

3 stars- I Liked It

The story follows Rue, who's mother has disappeared, her father's been arrested for murder, and she's seeing faeries all around her town, when before she couldn't see them. As the short story unravels, Rue learns she is a faerie, the truth about what really happened to her Mom, and that her dad didn't kill anyone. She's got to figure out how to save her friends who keep disappearing and figure out which side she's one. The faerie's or the human side. She needs to decide quick before the once peaceful truce between the faerie world and the human world becomes disastrous for Rue's city and everyone who lives there. Oh, and her grandfather is the leader of the faerie world.

Rue Silver's mother has disappeared . . . and her father has been arrested, suspected of killing her. But it's not as straightforward as that. Because Rue is a faerie, like her mother was. And her father didn't kill her mother -- instead, he broke a promise to Rue's faerie king grandfather, which caused Rue's mother to be flung back to the faerie world. Now Rue must go to save her -- and must also defeat a dark faerie that threatens our very mortal world.

Rue Silver's life is not what it appears to be. Her mother is a faerie, and has been taken back to the faerie realm. As Rue goes to bring her back, she must travel deep into an inhuman world. At the same time, the faerie realm is venturing into our world too, and taking its toll on those Rue loves. When her grandfather's plans threaten Rue's city, she realizes that she's the only one who can stop him. But is Rue a human or a faerie? Where does she fit? How does she know the difference between love and enchantment?

Waiting on Wednesday

I'm changing this up just a bit this week. There's so many great books that have recently been released, and of course they're all calling my name and are waiting to be read. Here's a few of those books that I've recently added to my TBR (to be read) pile.

Night Runner By Max Turner: For Zack Thomson, living in the Nicholls Ward isn't so bad. After his parents died, he developed strange and severe allergies, and the mental institution was the only place where he could be properly looked after. As strange as it was, it was home. He could watch as much television as he wanted; his best friend Charlie visited him often enough; and Nurse Ophelia--the prettiest no-nonsense nurse ever--sometimes took him bowling. Of course, that didn't mean he had it easy. His allergies restricted his diet to strawberry smoothies, and being the only kid at the hospital could get lonely. But it never once crossed Zack's mind to leave...until the night someone crashed through the front doors and told him to run. Now he's on a race for answers--about his past, his parents, and his strange sickness--even as every step takes him closer to the darkest of truths.

Dreaming Anastasia: A Novel of Love, Magic, and the Power of Dreams by Joy Preble
Sixteen year old Anne thinks her life is pretty ordinary – until she smacks into handsome, mysterious, and okay, annoying Ethan on her way to chemistry class. Now Anne has powers she doesn’t understand, a history altering mission she may not want, and a growing attraction to this blue-eyed stranger. And Ethan- who at eighteen made some choices he’s starting to regret – realizes that Anne is the girl for whom he’s been searching – for a very, very long time. Stir in doomed Russian Grand Duchess Anastasia – who is definitely not quite as dead as the history books say – and Baba Yaga, the legendary witch from Russian folklore, and you’ve got DREAMING ANASTASIA, a contemporary YA fantasy that alternates between the voices of Anne, Ethan, and Anastasia as Anne and Ethan join forces to battle the bad guys and save Anastasia. Only problem is – no one’s quite sure who’s really bad and who’s good. And everyone has some secrets.

The Amaranth Enchantment by Julie Berry
A delightful fairytale by a lyrical new voice.
When Lucinda Chapdelaine was a small child, her parents left for the royal ball and never returned. Ever since, Lucinda has been stuck in perpetual servitude at her evil aunt’s jewelry store. Then, on the very same day, a mysterious visitor and an even more bizarre piece of jewelry both enter the shop, setting in motion a string of twists and turns that will forever alter Lucinda’s path. In this magical story filled with delightful surprises, Lucinda will dance at the royal ball, fall under the Amaranth Witch’s spell, avenge her parents’ death, and maybe—just maybe—capture the heart of a prince.

Reviews will be posted soon.
